Redditch owes its existence to Religion. The Cistercian monks who founded Bordesley Abbey set the seeds for the Redditch we know today. TC – Redditch Hostelries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the observations made about Redditch in the 19th century was its large number of Public Houses.  This Gallery records and documents as many of those establishments. There were also a large number of \u201cAle Houses\u201d, private residences where beer was sold from a front room. We have yet to identify these or distinguish them from the pubs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

TC – Redditch Library<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1886 the original Redditch Library was opened when the former Literary and Scientific Institute was rebuild in Church Road. With the coming of the New Town it was deemed appropriate that a New Library was required. The new Library, designed by John Madin, was built and opened in 1976 on Market Place., and today offers a wide range of services and events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TC – Redditch Carnival<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There have been Fairs, Circuses and Carnivals in Redditch for at least 150 years. It is unclear where the term “Carnival” was first used but since the 1930’s there was one nearly every year with thousands turning out to support them. Sadly the frequency of annual carnival has reduced in the 21st century. <\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
