RW – WW1 Tribunals

During the WW1 conflicts, some Redditch residents applied to be spared the call-up for various reasons. Contrary to public opinion, most were not conscientious objectors but employed in key jobs supporting the war effort or vital to families’ well-being. This gallery contains transcriptions of the journal entries of their appeals.

In WW2, Redditch escaped major air attacts bt one lone aircraft did drop six bombs on the town. We don’t know if Redditch was deliberately targeted or if it was a lone enemy aircraft dumping bombs on his way home.

RW – Shot At Dawn Remembered

During WW1 there was a policy of executing deserters to instil discipline in the troops on the front lines. That policy is now rightly rejected and this memorial at the National Memorial Arboretun site remembers those now pardoned for no crime.
