A chance find, the contents of a solicitor’s offices were being cleared and a box of Wills & Probates was about to be dicarded in a skip. Luckily, they were rescued and added to the town’s archives.

As part of a family history project, a researcher had access to the Census of Tardebigge in 1831. They took the opportunity to transcribe it and again donate a copy to the town’s archives..

As part of the Lost Streets project, the town centre streets demolished during the New Town construction were documented. From this data we extracted a snapshot analysis of workers who once lived and worked in the town centre.

At the start of the 19th century, the population of Redditch was about 1.000 people. Today it is now nearly 90,000. Migration was a key factor in that population growth with migrants coming from different regions at different times for a variety of reasons.
